We would love to answer that question for you, but of course we simply do not know. That being said there is no better time than now to start thinking about your trip. There are however a few things to consider.
First and foremost the travel industry has been through unprecedented upheaval. For this reason we do not suggest actually booking anything that requires a deposit until the dust has settled a bit and we have a better idea of which vendors will survive financially. We have already seen some companies invoke force majeure, withhold refunds, or go under, and it is entirely likely more will follow.
And secondly you need to be flexible in terms of timing. If I had to guess today I would say summer is the most likely time things will settle down. If you had asked me to guess two weeks ago though I probably would have said May. This situation is unlike anything we have ever been through so when planning just don’t put in dates quite yet.
Ok, but what can you do now to start planning?
As it happens there is a lot you can still do:
- Dream and jot down a bucket list. Don’t worry about what’s going on in the world right now, but someday if everything works out where would you like to go? What are the places you have always dreamed of seeing? And what are the things you have always dreamed of doing?
- Prioritize your bucket list. What are your top five picks?
- Consider the practical. Of the top five which one or two is most realistic in terms of budget, time off works, accessibility and other practical considerations.
- Now that you have a destination in mind create an itinerary! Now when the day comes to travel again you will be first and line—ready to take advantage of any travel deals that pop up as the industry lures people back!
